Pollinating Pears

My pear tree has lots of blossom on and there is at least one industrious little bee buzzing over it so fingers crossed for lots of pears this Autumn.

Bucklers Hard to Beaulieu

August already and lots of July photos to catch up on.  Firstly a leisurely walk from Bucklers hard to Beaulieu and back, as recommended in Outdoor Photography magazine.  In all about 2 miles each way, with plenty of time for photography.

Bucklers hard is famous for its ship building using New Forest timbers, so naturally there is a harbour and lots of boats.

Some fungi, with an annoying piece of grass I hadn't noticed that had to be cropped out, grrr.

And you can't visit the New Forest without spotting a few ponies.

But we (my sister and I) were thrilled to have spotted one of these too.

And then it was gone.

Just time for a picture of a sweet little cottage in the woods on the way back before a New Forest ice cream and then home.

Oh, and for any long suffering non-photographer that has to go on such trips, I can confirm there are some nice shops to be visited in Beaulieu at the half-way point.

Bluebell Woods

The whole family went for a bluebell walk on 1 May 2011.  A bit late to see the flowers in their prime, but still a beautiful day for spotting and photographing all sorts of nature.

Ne'er cast a clout til May be out.  No problem.

There were bluebells still flowering, but not the thick carpeting of the woodlands.

We found a wild strawberry.

Also a butterfly/moth that I haven't identified as yet.  It's made me realise you can't have enough different wildlife guides with alternative illustrations in them, especially when you are trying to differentiate between small brown moths. Edited to add - Speckled Wood butterfly.

There was a cross roads with tempting tracks leading away.  Walks in the woods like this always make me think of Robert Frost's 'The Road Not Taken' or Rudyard Kipling's 'The Way Through The Woods', although the road is still obviously in use you can still imagine 'You will hear the beat of a horse's feet,
And the swish of a skirt in the dew.'
